I wasn’t doing it in a negative intention, but I was a master at annoying my peers during and out of class. I guess the stressful relationship I had in my family was actually coming out of me expressing it at school with others. That’s right, I had an abusive relation with the eldest of my brothers. I feared him without even knowing why at first, that’s before it becomes physical. He would usually wait until the parents aren’t home then he watches my every little move in hope to see me do something so that he could have a reason to scold me. That fear turned into self-awareness with time and maturity. I knew that if I minimize my moves or whatever, then there would be no scolding since he can’t find anything to point out. Keeping that self-awareness state throughout all the years turned it into a second nature at one point. I was actually in that mind state without even knowing that I was in that mind state. Fortunately, it had good impacts on me social wise. For instance, I stopped all the mockery and the mean stuff we did to others. I got really good at confining and reflecting on myself, my goals and what I really want in life. Guess the some tough relationships sometimes are actually beneficial if you

My parents were both in the military. My father has recently retired after twenty years in the United States Marine Corps, while my mother is still currently serving in the United States Air Force Reserve. I grew up under the impression that men and women are virtually the same in nearly every regard and should be treated as such in every situation. This belief was held primarily because of this military influence, in addition to my parents’ personal appearances. Both had very short hair, slight builds, similar heights, and most notably I never saw my mother or my father wearing gendered clothing when not in military garb.…

I was born on August 18, 1997 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina to Belinda Bogle and Sean Anderson. My mother, Belinda, is a parent educator who has worked hard to provide for me my entire life. She has always been a woman to put others before herself, even when it was difficult, and that is a quality I admire. My Sociological Biography Place of Birth To begin, both of my parents were born and raised in the Dominican Republic, living about 30 minutes away from each other, yet they met in the neighboring island of Puerto Rico. Even though I consider myself Dominican, since both of my families are so, I was born in Puerto Rico. More specifically, I was born in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, on Monday, April 14, 1997 at 9am in the Auxilio Mutuo Hospital. I consider myself to have a dual identity because of this, being part of two cultures at the same time, yet not being one nor the other. In my younger years, my family and I shifted from moving and living between my parents homeland, the Dominican Republic, and mine, Puerto Rico.…

Almost all my childhood was spent hating pink, not knowing what feminism was, and fully agreeing with everything my mother ever taught me. The earliest memory I have of color preferences consists of saying that I hated pink and that I loved blue. Disliking pink in and of itself is harmless, but I do remember that I also thought it was “girly” and I was a “tomboy”. I tried so hard when I was eight years old to be a boy.…

Socio-autobiography There is no society where gender is considered to be insignificant. China is one such society where gender roles and inequalities have developed over time and remain present today. However, being the first generation to grow up in New Zealand meant that many traditional Chinese views on gender norms were still incorporated into my upbringing. This socio-autobiography will explore sociological gender concepts across time and cultures, and how they have shaped my life.…
