Perseverance Perseverance in the end was the deciding factor that allowed the group to survive. The group even said it would of been easier to have given up and died. Instead of giving up the group rationed food and even ate dead bodies to survive. This would not be enough, the group had to find a way out of the mountains. They tried many things such as creating a radio, which failed to work. Three unskilled climbers even climbed a mountain to seek civilization to find nothing but mountains. Over and over the group was hit by more problems such as the lack of food and weather conditions. This did not stop the group, eventually two men make the heroic decision to hike to civilization. It would of been hard while in their situation to make decisions as a group, many people would go crazy or want to do their own things. This did not happen, even after many failures the group continued to effectively communicate and talk through problems. The three men who climbed to the top of the mountain were able to communicate and make the decision to go and look for help, which single handedly let allowed them to survive. Communication through the tough times was most certainly one of the most important leadership skills
