Poke here and poke there, diabetics have to prick their fingers every time they want to eat or they have to at least 3 to 4 times a day. But a little background information, when I was 7 years old my parents noticed that I was going to the bathroom quite a bit, but also drinking a lot of water so they took me in to get me checked out. Then after many test were done and feeling all weird my blood sugar was 860 (that’s really high) and told us that I was a type 1 diabetic. A type 1 diabetic is someone whose pancreas doesn’t work at all or very little that it can’t keep up with all the sugar and carbs you put into your body, so you have to take shots of insulin, to keep every thing under control. I hate the smell of walking into a doctor’s office, I always get freaked out or nervous, and my blood pressure would go up when I arrived there. But even when the doctors would want to get blood drawn for test I would be sacred because I hate those type of needles, and they would always give me crap for pricking my self to give insulin but I wouldn’t let them take blood or give me a flu …show more content…
When you have to take shots you have to count up all your carbs and give insulin according to your sliding scale. For example, if you had a sliding scale of 1 unit for every 5 carbs. But being on the pump has its advantages and disadvantages. Some advantages are that you only have to change your site (so get poked with a needle) every 3 to 4 days, so that was a

Insulin pumps are usually only about the size of a deck of cards and have the ability to stream steady amounts of insulin into the body through a needle. Users have to press a button on the pump after meals for an insulin boost or “bolus”, and at all other times throughout the day, the pump distributes smaller amounts of insulin into the body, closely resembling how the pancreas would normally act. The insulin pump helps almost completely prevent blood sugar level swings and is pretty easy to use. Although insulin pumps are a great way to regulate blood sugar levels, they create a high risk of infection at the point where the needle is inserted, especially if the needle is not changed every few days. Also, the pump could fail or become disrupted causing diabetic ketoacidosis, or very high blood sugar.…
