The Importance Of Teaching As A Career In Education

“A good teacher, like a good entertainer first must hold his audience’s attention, then he can teach his lesson” (John Henrik Clarke). Those who are able to manage a classroom of students, hold their attention, and not only teach them something, but can make an impact, are the real superheros. One career I have looked into considering as an option is a secondary (high school) English teacher/ educator, due to my love for literature and writing as well as helping others learn and grow.
To work in the education field you must also go through the education and training to get there. Teaching at a secondary educational level requires at least and bachelor’s degree, but whomever is deciding teaching as a career can go as far as getting a PhD.

Skills necessary to work in the education field would be flexibility, patience, instruction, communication, basic technology skills, management, time management, multitasking, and punctuality. Possible ways to gain experience with these skills for this occupation, would be to work in food service or get into an internship, or try multiple internships (Study.com). Teaching would be ideal for me because I can be flexible and deal with adjusting schedules and days, and I have plenty of patience especially with children. My communication skills are also excellent due to my experience working as a server and cashier, I’m also a punctual person and provide structure. Some personality traits that I think also fit well with this choice of occupation are that I’m a very open minded person, I can multitask easily, and I get passionate about my work. This will allow me to hear my students out, and make it easier to show how I care for what I do and for how I do it, as well as allowing me to manage a classroom of many young adults while still having to teach. In order to be a prospect for employment, one must have taken up to or over 5 years of schooling, have at least a bachelor’s degree, and have the right training and certification to go along with it. But there’s also things to consider that will influence job availability in a specific place someone may want to work. Things influencing whether or not a career would be available for you is based on your education and training and what skills you have. The potential of becoming an educator is that you get to lead, inspire, and innovate your students (teach..org). Not only teach them what they need to know to be successful in life, but to also make an impact on their lives.
