I sincerely care about individuals and their necessities to live a satisfying life. Listening to others and their past experiences and stories is also something that I enjoy, and it is important that individuals feel heard. Throughout the course of my life, I have attended six different service projects, each of which have influenced me greatly. However, my latest service project I attended was in Leogane, Haiti. My eyes were opened to the injustices of this world. It does not seem fair to me that people in America are spoiled by simply having roofs over their head. Children in Haiti eat tree bark for their daily meals. Parents have to choose which child will have the next meal. The pollution and trash that fill the streets is heart breaking. I want to be a person who advocates for the poor, marginalized, and the oppressed. As a social worker, it is my privilege to aid others in their time of need. After receiving my Masters of Social Work degree, I hope to continue training to eventually become a play therapist. I want to be of assistance to children who are facing difficulties in their lives. In addition receiving my Masters of Social Work degree will equip me to carry on with my long term goal of becoming a play therapist.
One of the main reasons I am interested in becoming a play therapist and working with children is because I have a passion for children.
