Reflection On Reader-Writer Notebook

Improved Essays
Throughout the course of Composition 1, we were required to read one article every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and we were to discuss it in class. In our Reader-Writer Notebook we were instructed to record a response of 150 words describing the article and our thoughts about the article. As we advanced throughout the different articles we read, we were to better our writing in our notebook and hopefully expand our knowledge as a reader. Currently for the Reader-Writer Notebook I have done every entry which has totaled up to be 14 articles not including the articles written by the students which equalled out to be another 23 articles.
I believe I have made a lot of progress on my writing since the beginning of this year. When we were first assigned this assignment I really did not know how to read deeply into an article and explain my thoughts about it. I never thought that far into a essay before. This has taught me as a reader to go more in depth with my thinking and to expand my thoughts on something rather than keep it to myself. However not only has it helped me as a reader, but also

I really do not know if changing up the articles would make a difference or if it 's something I need to work on as a reader and writer. However as for the professor, I wish you would change up some of the articles. I personally did not enjoy “The City Solution and The False Idyll,” I am not sure what your views may be about this essay, but it was hard for me to understand them and write about them. I would recommend for in the future, maybe explore other articles and a find new essay for the class to talk about. I am not saying I did not enjoy them, but I feel like some of them could get out dated and others could be added to be more prevalent in today’s society because the world is changing

Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. These essays have benefited me in a numerous amount of ways in which I am going to explain how their writing styles helped me become a better writer. Staples helped me a lot in which he taught me to explain my reasoning fully so that the audience know exactly what I am talking about. Another thing that Staples taught me was to explain the setting of the story in full detail so the readers can visualize what’s actually happening in the story this…

After each paper I write, I notice the progress I have made with my writing. I am able to continue improving on many aspects of my writing, but each time I finish an essay, I realize how much more efficient the process has become for me. In this analysis, I will explain my assertions and assess the things I have done well, along with the aspects I can continue to improve on for the next time. The National Anthem is a very powerful song, and like many other Americans, I have heard it being played before sporting events on television and at my school for my entire life.…

Freshman Composition I’s course objective was designed to help students “focus on developing and expressing ideas clearly and effectively to communicate with various audiences for various purposes and occasions, through written, oral, aural, and visual venues by means of individual and team projects.” Throughout this course my classmates and I reviewed principles of the writing process, including: planning, logical organizational, development strategies, revision, and editing, we were also introduced to rhetorical techniques and vigorous library research. With those techniques, this course has helped my classmates and I develop critical thinking skills like: summary, paraphrase, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of multiple sources. Before I began this class my writing process consisted of simply being assigned as assignment by my high school english teachers and coming up with an essay at the top of my head that properly fit the space requirement and prompt that I would then turn in the day it was due.…

Even though it does not feel as though I have improved much, I know that the grades on my essays say differently. After looking over my essays, I noticed that I have become better with using evidence to support my papers. This, to me, is my best accomplishment. I have also improved on my word choice, organization, and how I use my quotes. If you were to compare the first paper I wrote to the last paper I wrote, I feel as though it would be obvious on how much my organization has improved.…

As I strided strong through my analysis paper, I saw how much I have improved throughout this year in writing. Although, I have many weaknesses and strengths in writing I managed to finish off this paper strong. In my analysis, my introduction went well and so did my thesis. I managed to develop both of them right off the bat once I started my paper. Another part that went was the interview with a field agronomist.…

I’ve never worked as hard or as passionately on my work as I have done this year, and my new found way of doing my work is what made me grow as a student. As a reader, I was able to advance my way of reading, considering how I read way more into the text and note patterns too. This is probably because you manage to drill into my head the sort of guidelines needed in order for this to happen, such as if an author thinks something is important he’ll repeat it. Due to these lessons, I changed how I wrote my essays since I became even more invested in my writing. And I became a bit more confident in my writing due to my friends who complimented my writing and you who believed in me and in my writing.…

I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

Some changes through the semester I believe were immensely beneficial to my writing, while others; now that I am aware of them I can work to change them into more productive habits that will help me and my writing to improve. One of the questions asked on the survey that I found the most intriguing was my change in how I answered a question concerning if I ever came up with new intuitive ideas concerning my topic. My answer went from rarely, and changed to often, which I believe is greatly connected to the significant amount of time we spent in class going over and examining essays in class. The class discussions that we have had have greatly helped me to see and examine what is being said in a more insightful way, which has significantly helped me to create my own in depth perspective.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
