Today’s generation is filled with this kind of social media that affects a lot of peoples perspective on how they view life and gives off some sort of unrealistic idea of how you should look and act everyday. As you see an increase in social media in peoples everyday lives, the need of psychiatrists will also expand. In today’s society some people will experience these problems and might think they can handle it well by their own guidance. In other cases, however, people have disorders that are not such simple problems that require additional help from psychiatrists. In this profession you need to be a very good listener and interpreter, and have an inquiring mind that consumes of analytical skills. Psychiatrists also need to be able to analyze human behavior and be emotionally stable to deal with other patients. However, if you are looking to become a psychiatrist you have to know that getting too involved with patients can be very hard and also exhausting (Ferguson 773). Psychiatrists set their own schedules and regulate work hours to what works for them. The average amount of hours per week in this profession is about 52 hours (Top 100 293). When you are a psychiatrist, you are primarily indoors and are set in one location throughout the day (Encyclopedia 159). Dr. Jenny Kane says, you are “on call practically all the time” and “ it’s not uncommon for a patient to want to talk to me specifically.” This meaning that at any hour a patient could want to talk to you and only you, making you have to drop what you 're doing and go meet with the patient (Ferguson 772). Psychiatrists may work evenings and weekends for patients that cant take off during business hours during the week (Careers in focus 154).
