Someone once said, “You may not be able to control every situation and its outcome, but you can control your attitude and how you deal with it.” We have all had those days, when we wake up late and everything that happens from that moment on seems like it doesn’t want to go our way. The car wouldn’t start, your back tire is flat, can’t get anyone to answer your calls or text, and on top of that you forgot to prepare for the speech you were supposed to give today: this is enough to send anyone over the edge. For our small family of three the night ended like any other; a bedtime story, prayers, and goodnight hugs and kisses. What seemed to be just another peaceful night, would turn into any person’s worst nightmare.
I was awoken by the sound of shattering glass and a heavy object landing on my foot. Still in a haze, I looked out of the now, broken window wondering what could have caused it. Suddenly it hit me, there was a bright red brick laying on my foot, and someone had used it to bust out my bedroom window. I darted across the room and grabbed my brother, who was still unaware of what just happened and dragged him to my mother’s room. The walk seemed so much further, when you were trying not to make any noise. Upon reaching her room, I shook her with every ounce of strength I had. I exclaimed to her that someone had broken my bedroom window. Any parent at that point would rather assume their child had just kicked out the window in their sleep, then to face the reality of…
