Personal Statement: Mrs. Poppe

Rick Smith once said; “Being a new teacher is like trying to fly a plane… while building it”. I interpret this quote as; being a new teacher, you are still learning everyday even though you are teaching. Being a new teacher is a lot of work and many things go into great success. Here are some questioned answered by a wonderful second grade teacher who is new to the field but fits right in. My first question for Mrs. Poppe was; “why did you choose to become a teacher?” I felt that this was a great opening question, her response was “I became a teacher because I was inspired by my mom. She was creative and did her best to challenge and motivate me”. I am personally fond of this response because my mother is also my role model and she encourages me everyday to be my best self. …show more content…
Her response was: “Some of them I 've already experienced: difficult students, difficult parents, less-than-supportive leadership and feeling overwhelmed”; those are all expected difficulties that come with teaching. She also said “I know that in the future, I can expect this, as well as the challenge to stay relevant, patient and diligent” which I could not agree more. With the difficulties students and parents; teachers need relevance, patience, and diligence. Teachers also need to push through times with non-supportive leadership and being overwhelmed with...everything. Next question was “what are you most looking forward to in the future? With children? Coworkers?”. Her response was “I am most looking forward to the day when I no longer feel like a "new teacher".” In greater detail she explained; “This year, I 'm looking forward to seeing my students grow into independence”. I can not wait to have the same feeling as she does now; to build a relationship with each one of my students and see them
