The results of my PRCA-24 were a little surprising but in a good way. I got an 84 which was much higher than I thought it was going to be which I guess reflects on the fact that maybe I don 't give myself as much credit as I should when thinking about my public speaking ability. One of the things the test made me realize is that i’m more nervous in regular life than I am nervous when public speaking, because I thought about the questions if they referred to the circumstances of everyday life. I guess that’s the benefit and downside to being a performer. Watching the video was a little bit strange for me because I’m always perceiving myself differently when I’m up there, which is partly a perspective switch but also sometimes it’s also focusing

One of thing things A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking talks about that I want to draw from going forward is forming a specific speech purpose. “Ask yourself: What do you want the audience to learn/do/reconsider/agree with?” (Page 50). This is an idea that I want to keep in mind a lot more before I start writing my speeches. By being able to pinpoint my intentions I believe I will be more effective in making audience laugh or making them consider a certain idea, etc. Once I’m able to do this, I think that skill will carry over past the class and help me in my specific career path which is one of the most important things about the class to me. Another idea that the book mentioned that I think could be good for me is using movement to minimize anxiety. “You don’t have to stand perfectly still behind the podium when you deliver a speech. Walk around as you make some of your points. Movement relieves tension and helps hold the audience’s attention.” (Page 19). Something I noticed while re-watching old George Carlin specials was his ability to move around the stage when he was really trying to drive a point home. When the book talked about this, I thought back to all the other times I’ve spoken in public and how I failed to utilize my space and ability to move around. I’m going to make it a goal and conscious effort going forward to become more mobile in
