Narrative Essay About Motivation

There were many times that I couldn’t find motivation in not one fiber of my body. I‘ve constantly had mental battles with myself. I started making excuses and finding reasons why I shouldn’t exercise yet. I procrastinated with exercising, until I didn’t feel like getting it done. I blamed it on everything else, other than my own laziness. In reality, that’s exactly what it was. Being lazy about exercise began to cost me mentally and physically. When I began to get bad reports from my doctors, I knew it was no way out of it then. I was motivated to workout, so I could reverse the results that my doctor informed me about. I didn’t expect working out to be as challenging as it was. It was hard for me to believe that I went from being the motivator to others, to being the one that needed to be motivated. I noticed that whenever I was upset or felt depressed, stressed or sad, my workouts weren’t that good. I’d find myself focusing more on the things that was bothering me, than I was on getting a good workout in. There were even times that I’ve worked out for ten or 15 minutes. I was too burdened by the situations that I was dealing with, to stick to my usual one to two hours. …show more content…
I had to trick myself a number of different ways, to get my workouts done. The day that I woke up to the fact that I could be lazy and still get a good workout in--was a lifesaver. I discovered that I could work up a sweat by doing exercises, while sitting or lying down. These were also exercises that I could do, while listening to my favorite radio station or while watching my favorite television show or movie. To me this was one of the greatest things they could have ever invented. This inspired me to explore many different exercise products, that I could use without always being on my

Throughout the informative article, Twilley introduces different perspectives and scientific research to compel The New Yorkers demographic (especially athletes or those affected by the medical conditions…

From watching this Crash Course video, I learned many things about motivation. One topic that was discussed in the video was Aron Ralston. Ralston was out climbing in Utah's Bluejohn Canyon when a giant rock shifted under his feet, and he fell, pinning his right arm to the canyon wall. There was no one around to help Ralston, and for five days Ralston attempted to escape by chipping away at the rock. He was forced to ration his food supply and had to endure serious hallucinations.…

Schizophrenia is a widely known mental disorder. As many as twenty four million people around the world have been diagnosed. While we are aware of causes and side effects to this disorder, not much research has been done pertaining to the effects that physical activity can have on someone with this disorder. According to Rastad (2014), people who are diagnosed with schizophrenia “die 12 to 15 years prematurely” (p. 1468). It also has taught me to not be complacent and that it is never to late to start a routine again and showed me how much I actually miss engaging in physical activity. I definitely think I changed my behavior and even though I am done with this project I plan on continuing to go to gym everyday even if it is for only 15 minutes because the only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen. I also don’t want to be so critical and harsh on myself because this is a small stepping stone and need to learn to be patient. I am very proud that I have begun working out again. I believe what was most helpful was being able to keep track of what times work best and coming to realize that I was just wasting my free time watching Netflix something that isn’t beneficial.…

My goal for the behavior change project was to lose ten pounds by the cutoff date. My three short-term goals were losing two pounds, five pounds, and eight pounds. Looking back on these goals, I wish that I would have chosen better dates for these to be completed by. My original long-term goal was to lose twenty pounds, which now seems almost impossible due to me not being able to lose ten pounds in a few months. Introduction Previous Research article titled “Exercising with an iPod, Friend, or Neither: Which is Better for Psychological Benefits?” stated that exercising, in general, has been proven to reduce the chances of acquiring a variety of illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, cancer and many other life-threatening conditions. In addition, exercising has psychological benefits as well and may increase self-reliance, decrease stress, and improve moods. One of the ways one’s exercising environment could be improved is by incorporating music in it. Those who exercise to music create a more positive atmosphere to workout in which the person is able to accomplish his or her goals, while being pleasantly distracted by the music compared to those who exercise without music. They hypothesized that those who used a device for music (for ex.an iPod) or had a friend to work out…

Step one of the transtheoretical model is precontemplation, this is the stage where you don’t think you have a problem and don’t intend to change it. This was me before I started this behavior change, I didn’t think I was putting on weight and if I noticed anything I blamed it on my menstrual cycle because of bloating. Step two, Contemplation is when you know you have a problem and within 6 months you intend to do something about it. I reached this point once I physically saw my weight gain when I went to go put on try on a bikini, it was then I knew I needed to start exercising but was lost on where to begin. I kept telling myself I was going to start going to the gym but kept making excuses to start going.…
