Early on, becoming a physician never crossed my mind. I wanted an exciting and fulfilling job, and most importantly, one where I would be able to support Skyler. Shortly after graduation, I became an intern firefighter at a rural town in Clark County, Washington. I have seen patients unintentionally project their frustrations towards the staff and the importance of understanding their distress and approaching every patient with the same level of respect. I have seen physicians bring order when chaos erupts, exhibit courage when delivering tragic news to families, and mustering up the strength to continue assisting the next patient after a trying situation. Being a young father while working, attending college, and having experiences with various emergency systems, I believe I have the emotional capacity to handle stressful situations and the resilience to bounce back from the bad days.
