After a while, I started to feel that I had an obligation to help Oreo whenever I could. When I would hear him barking, I would go outside with treats and feed him through the tiny hole in the fence that separated our yard from theirs. What some don’t realize is that most people that abuse animals are also the people who are abusive to their family members or friends. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or more commonly known as the ASPCA, “Researchers have documented a strong connection between animal abuse and domestic violence. A study from 11 U.S. cities revealed that a history of pet abuse is one of the four most significant indicators of who is at greatest risk of becoming a domestic batterer”
