I am a physician and completed Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Comilla Medical College of Chittagong University, Bangladesh. After passing MBBS, I finished internship (residency) from Sylhet M.A.G. Osmani Medical College Hospital. I am now applying to Master of Public Health (MPH) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH) to learn more about research methodologies and complex issues related to research.
My interest in public health is closely linked to my country of origin; I am from a small developing country, Bangladesh. This country is one of the most densely populated countries where most of the people suffer from common preventable diseases and injuries. I wanted to be a doctor in my childhood to treat sick patients as I thought treatment is the only way to save their lives. I was fortunate to study medicine. When I was a medical student, I saw many people suffering from diseases and most of the diseases were preventable by practicing a healthier lifestyle, taking safety measures against infections and early care-seeking during sickness. These people were illiterate, poor and did not know what to do when they become sick or how the illness could be prevented. I worked with Dr. Mian Bazle Hossain, Professor of Biostatistics, Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland, in his project from Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA). I also worked under the guidance of Dr. Rashed Shah, Advisor, Save the Children-USA. I worked with them as a nonpaid volunteer. I helped him to prepare field study proposal and documenting of the study reports. I also assisted them in developing the manuscript for peer-reviewed journal publication and performed some basic statistical analysis using STATA.I learned a lot by implementing their
