What kind of leader do I want to be? I know what kind of leader I want to be, but the real question is, what kind of leader am I? I ran across a quiz on About.com, What’s Your Leadership Style (Cherry, 2015)? It is 20 to 25 questions, with three choices per question for you to choose from. After completing the quiz, what kind of leader I want to be match to what kind of leader I am according to the quiz. According to James Manktelow, I am a Democratic leader or also known as a Participative leader (Manktelow, 2015). A Democratic leader is a leader that involves his employees or team with the decision making process. I have experienced this first-hand, my previous manager was looking for a way to improve product sort time. Product sort time means the time it takes to unload a trailer and then organize the products to be put into the system. My manager organized a committee of his best sorters, we met once a week for a couple of weeks. We all had inputs on how we can improve the process, but my manager made the decision on what idea we …show more content…
What a Democratic needs far as employees goes, is a company’s man. Someone who is for the company in every way and is not easily discourage (PreserveArticles.com, 2012). An employee who has been burned by a previous manager or the company or an individual who does not care about the companies goals, will be a disadvantage to a Democratic leader. This individual could corrupt the good employee or employees, I seen it done on numerous occasions, but a Democratic leader. Can create a better work environment, where there is acceptance. Morale and creativity will increase because the employees’ feels empowered. This will lead to a higher number of employee retention, because employees become comfortable with their job and relinquish the need to see if the grass is greener somewhere else (Root,
