Reflective Essay On You Are Here

Step X: “You are here.” I am a sophomore at the college of CSB/SJU. I am a nursing student and take school very seriously. I think that being a nursing student takes dedication and commitment, which was important for me to learn in my first year of college. My concerns are centered around my future, family and friends. I believe that my concerns are very self centered because of the point of my life that I am in. I am trying to find out who I am and where I belong in the world. My interests are in helping and understanding others, which is why I have chosen nursing as my major. I am assuming that my service learning experience will be very eye opening. A lot of the children at Bel Clare have experienced hardships in their lives that I never had at their age. The children at Bel Clare range from 6-17. I am …show more content…
Molly is at a very vulnerable part of her life, and being put in situations where she will be able to excel academically will guide her through this stage. She has mastered critical and scientific thinking, which would lead one to assume she is leaning towards the industry portion of this stage. When Molly comes up against a problem that she cannot seem to solve, such as when playing strategic board games, she does not get frustrated or encounter inferior thoughts. She would look at the problem at hand and attempt to understand it in new ways in order to solve the problem. This sort of academic thinking is what is leading her towards the industry side of this stage. Bel Clare encourages students to bring their homework in to get help with tutoring, but Molly claimed to have finished it all already. She said her math class and language arts class were the only classes she had homework in and that both were too easy that she did not need help. This leads me to believe that she is academically superior to many of her classmates and is competent in what she attempts in

Joining the New Visions program was one of the wisest decisions I have made. When nurses that I shadow at Unity Hospital express how jealous they are that they didn’t have a program like this when they were in high school, it reminds me to take advantage of this opportunity that not every student receives. I am confident that when I graduate college, I will be able to recollect this program, and how it led me to be successful. I will reminisce about the long hours dedicated to each college-level assignment in determination to receive a grade in the high 90’s, or that moment when I witnessed a five pound baby be born from a cesarean delivery, or even when I stood next to the operating table observing a total knee replacement surgery, while the surgeon and nurses took the time to teach me about what they were doing--an opportunity that not even college nursing students were able to see. Every assignment I completed, conversation I had, and person I met, has transformed me into a more educated and open minded student.…
