My teacher explained to us that there would be a new President and that the President would be chosen by U.S. citizens. To help us understand how the process worked she created fake ballots for us to vote for who we thought should be the next president. I 'm not quite sure if my vote ever made it to the counting facility but at that moment I felt as if my opinion really mattered. I would later reflect on this event with the same excitement I had that day as I casted my first real vote in the 2013 election during my last year in the Chicago Public School system. By the time I was a Senior In highschool I had become the captain of the school’s dance team. But this was no easy task. When I tried out for the team my sophomore year I was confident in my dance skills but I knew that I did not have the greatest memory when it came to dance routine recall. During tryouts I memorize what I could and perfected each move that I did know. When I made the team I knew I had to work ten times harder and practice ten times longer than most of the girls and that is exactly what I did. I practiced and eventually developed my own rhythm and dance style. I still struggled with ballet but I was not afraid to challenge myself. I was responsible for training new girls and making sure they picked up routines even if that meant staying late. I helped to organize fundraisers and to relay messages from the school band to the dance team to make sure that we were all on the same page when it was time to perform. My school’s dance team taught me how to be responsible for myself and others and that hard work really pays
