Hiding from the Truth In the short story “I ain’t no good girl” by: Sharon Flake, the narrator is afraid to take action for several events in the story. I believe that this is so because she doesn’t have confidence in herself; because she is too afraid. The story starts off with the Narrator and several other girls waiting for a bus stop in a corner of the street. A while later, the Narrator’s boyfriend Raheem greets the Narrator. On the bus to school, the narrator tries to take a last look at her boyfriend only to see him kissing one of the girls who waited for the bus with her. Flake makes Raheem look like a bad character that is unloyal to the Narrator. Raheem is created to be the antagonist against the Narrator, who receives the most conflict from him. The Narrator shouldn’t let Raheem control her or let him influence her actions. “You my man! What you doing looking at her for?” Raheem’s hand smashes the words back into my mouth.’ “Girl doesn’t make me…”’ I apologize just like my momma does when my daddy slaps her.” This quote shows that the Narrator …show more content…
Raheem is not dedicated or loyal to his relationship with the Narrator. “Then he asks me to spot him five. Before I can get inside my purse, he unsnaps it. Takes out my wallet and puts ten bucks in his back pocket. “Don’t be going in my…’ “What’s yours is mine ain’t it?” This quote shows that Raheem doesn’t respect the Narrator and feels that he can do anything he wants with her possessions. “I lean over and stare out the window and see the redhead standing on the corner with Raheem. Raheem’s all up in her face. Sunglasses off. Arms wrapped around her neck. His sweet brown lips pressed tightly to hers.” Judging by his actions in this quote, who knows if this isn’t the first time he has cheated on the narrator in the two years they were together? This relationship between the narrator and Raheem is unhealthy. The Narrator deserves better than

We’ve all probably heard of the saying ‘everybody makes mistakes.’ While we might sometimes find it reassuring in certain situations, it’s never acceptable with murder. Of course, Flannery O’Connor isn’t claiming that everyone’s guilty of homicide; but her short story ‘A Good Man is Hard to Find’ makes it clear that everybody’s guilty of something. This evil tale of a pretentious and self absorbed grandmother’s vacation with her family is steeped in connections to Christian faith, such as Flannery’s thematic emphasis that “All have sinned.” From the beginning, she didn’t want to go to Florida and tries to convince her son Bailey that they should go to Tennessee instead, using the excuse that there is an escaped convict on the loose.…

The way that the author, Sharon Flake, develops Raheem in the story shows how ugly of a person he is because Raheem is a jerk with his girls. Raheem can’t be in a relationship because he’s going to end up breaking his girlfriend’s heart. If the author would have written Raheem as a nice and loyal guy the story would have been much better. Raheem is a selfish guy who doesn’t care about his relationship with girls and would yell and hit a girl when he is also a player. He would probably cheat on all of his…

In reading world literature, it becomes abundantly clear that the reality of women being subjected to different and sometimes harsh treatment by society is not a regional or even a national truth. It is a theme that is extended from the beginning of time until present day in literary works. While there are many examples of this truth, Jamaica Kincaid’s “Girl” is exceptionally poignant. Kincaid’s careful use of form and character identities work in perfect tandem to convey the truths of human femininity.…

The way in which a story is presented can either be what Kenneth Burke refers to as good art or bad art. Good art is that which conveys multiple meanings through the context; bad art is that which only holds one meaning that is simply understood the same way among all audience members. Hills Like White Elephants can be categorized as good art through the ways in which, depending on the reader, can lead to various interpretations and understandings. Through examination of the story and its various elements, an individual can begin to discover the multiple ways that phrasing can impact how a reader feels about their own values in relation to the material presented/before them.…

Hosseini 's exploration of Amir and Baba’s arduous relationship is centered around this kite as Amir believes it will create the connection he has longed for. Amir’s role as a flawed protagonist is solidified within this chapter, in some ways it had been alluded to previously but not to this significant degree. The core conflict of the novel is that of an internal struggle to rid oneself of guilt, the guilt that has been created through the betrayal of Hassan which is reflected upon by the narrator, Amir, who reflects on the strife he felt at the time, and how he attempted to avoid the feeling by avoiding eye contact and then later any kind of association. Hassan on the other hand has his positive characteristics exemplified in this chapter, primarily that of his unyielding loyalty, which makes his suffering even more tragic when compared to Amir. Hassan eases Amir’s worries assuring him that there is no monster to be afraid of, only a beautiful day of kite fighting showing just how well he understands Amir.…

Rae Sremmurd’s “No Type” is a great example of a song that sounds like every other rap song on the radio. Making use of the words “bad bitches” and “nigga” gives a negative set of ideals or purpose that often has a negative influence over the modern population (RaeSremmurdVEVO, 2014). Using the same melodies, tones, and word pronunciations the song becomes recycled, thus giving the modern population an idea of what is common and what isn’t. Consistency is a “must” in modern day music using the same set of distinguishable rhythms, rhymes, and melodies. Our culture is forcing a model of what is popular which often changes what we contemplate to be right and wrong.…
