Hypovolemic thirst occurs when body fluids decrease when a person loses a great amount of blood or vomits. Loss of body fluids encourages a person to drink flavored liquids because both water and salts are lost, thus causing thirst and salt appetite. With the loss of solute in the body, there will also be loss be a decrease in blood volume which is accompanied by a decrease in blood pressure detected by baroreceptors in the heart. OVLT will then detect this dehydration and sends signals to the posterior pituitary gland to secrete ADH. ADH then signals the kidneys to release renin. Renin then converts angiotensinogen into angiotensin II which stimulates subfornical organ (SFO) and sends information to the nucleus of the solitary tract (NST)
