In every trial, there was no data that was consistent or logical to be used to determine an accurate LC50. The LC50 is the point at which the concentration of a pollutant is lethal to 50% of the organisms. Static toxicity tests occur when the aquatic organisms are exposed to the same pollutant concentration for the duration of the test. The hypothesis of this experiment was that the salinity of water would decrease plant growth due hypertonic solution and the results support the claim. Over the experiment time, plant 1 grew 0.5cm (2.38% increase) which was as expected as it didn’t have a high salinity. Plants 2, 3 and 4 all decreased in height, with plant 2 height decreasing by 1cm (5.26% decrease), plant 3 decreasing by 1.5cm(8.33% decrease) and plant 4 with a decreased height of 2cm(10% decrease). As you can see from the graph, plant 1 stayed in the same position while as the other plants decreased with plant 4 having the most significant decrease in height. The problem/question investigated was to see if mixing affects the amount of time it takes to dissolve a lifesaver. My hypothesis stated, If a lifesaver is mixed into water then, the time it takes to dissolve will decrease because by stirring or shaking causes the solute particles to separate from one another and spread out quicker among the solvent particles. My hypothesis was supported. For the mixed lifesaver, at 2 minutes 12 seconds, the lifesaver got smaller and turned the water red, at the final time, 9 minutes 25 seconds the lifesaver dissolved in the water completely. For the untouched lifesaver, it’s started getting smaller at 7 minutes 45 seconds and dissolved at 26 minutes 15 seconds.…
The hypothesis was that as the amount of sugar in the water increased, the amount of time it takes to dissolve sugar would increase. My group’s data from the experiment refutes this hypothesis, because the amount of sugar already present in the water had no effect on the time it took to dissolve. The only variable that changed was the amount of sugar that was already in the glass. Other variables my group attempted to avoid changing was the amount of water in the glass, how much sugar put into the glass, and the speed of mixing and dissolving the sugar.
