The condition my sister had was called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome occurs when parts of the left side of the heart do not develop completely. Since the left side of the heart does not develop, the right side is doing twice the work. For many, my sister's appearance was very difficult to look at because people couldn’t understand why she looked like that. When she was born she was hooked up to an oxygen tank. In turn, Stevie was always purple and I thought she was just cold all of the time; obviously, that was not the case. In addition, she was very limited on what she could and couldn’t do. With only being a year apart we got ourselves into a lot of trouble. This one time, it was a week before school pictures
