Hypocrisy: Disconnect Between Perception And Reality

Improved Essays
Hypocrisy is interesting! I sometimes feel that hypocrite people might actually suffer a disconnect between the perception of their believe and its reality, rather than that they are aware of what they do and choose to deny it. Per example, I think texting and driving is dangerous and irresponsible, and I will be quick to negatively label people that practice it. Yet , in reality I do imagine I would text and drive if I was to seek it’s convenience at some point. In this example, my mind accepts the idea that I am against texting and driving, but the perception of this believe applying to me is a mirage.
The trees started to lose their leaves I remarked, and the area I once compared to a giant green broccoli now seem to have acquired more character.

In “Friday Night Lights,” H.G. Bissinger states that a resident of the town stated that “Athletics last for such a short period of time. It ends for people. But while it lasts, it creates this make-believe world where normal rules don’t apply.” In other words, the hypocrisy of sports is that sports, particularly football in Odessa, represent an idealistic image of success and a prosperous future that wears off to a blunt image of a reality where there is little opportunity for the town economically, and even smaller opportunities for the athletes worshiped on the field. Sports often represent an overly idealistic opportunity for young athletes to escape poverty.…

In Politics cognitive dissonance is often used as a strategy to persuade voters. Cognitive dissonance is when a action conflicts with beliefs or preferences, as a result people change their beliefs or preferences to match their actions; “But precisely how to move voters successfully is a matter still not fully understood—and the raison d'etre for political strategists and pundits” (Paragraph 1). These political attitudes can change as a result of cognitive dissonance, “…people adjust their political preferences in order to downplay cognitive dissonance…”(Paragraph 7).…
