America, the poster child of the free world. If America were an infomercial we would be filled with claims such as “Land of the Free,” “A country where everyone gets along,” and “THE place to be on Earth” followed by those 3 seconds of sped up talking that tell you all the side effects and possible negative implications that go so fast you can’t hear them on purpose. “This products only applies if you are white, male, and wealthy. If you are not all three of the above you may want to consult a doctor etc.” Although America’s commercial image is built off the ideals of equality for all, the melting pot of the world, and a haven for immigrants I believe these ideals are untrue because of deep rooted hypocrisy in them that don’t allow these ideals

Now I know there are many factors that would make a person come to America. These could include poor living conditions, political climates, and dangers such as country wide gang violence, but I want to specifically talk on this point of attraction before I go in on white hypocrisy to provide a background why people even choose to deal with the fallacies of America. Since America advertises itself as a “Country of Immigrants” and a place of opportunity so many people like Tizon's family are bound to want to immigrate and escape less than ideal conditions to a place where they are “promised” a better life. I feel this parallels with people of color who already live here as well. They are raised in school systems to believe we live in a post racial society because Martin Luther King Jr. fixed everything. The same ideals and mantras of American society are taught to people of color as well to make them think they are just as equal as everyone. We constantly hear the term “If you don’t like it, then get out,” but the problem with that is so many times what these immigrants of people of color don’t like is because it is different then what was promised by what the same people saying to get out. This is where white American hypocrisy
