How many of you have had a hypnotist come to your school? Some students got hypnotized at my school and I got to watch them from being scared to being happy, from dancing to crying, and even watched them have a chance to be a model. According to David Hartman and Diane Zimberoff in their article Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy in the Milieu of Integrative Medicine: Healing the Mind/Body/Spirit, “The unconscious contains all of our emotions, creativity, intuition, and a whole host of resources that control our bodily functions such as breathing, heart rate and metabolism. When we learn to relax into a trance state, we then have access to this other 90% of our mental capacity.” There are many ways that hypnosis can be beneficial such as treating anxiety, managing pain, and maintaining healthy habits. …show more content…
Anxiety is common among college students. Going to see a hypnotists can also be combined with learning self-hypnosis. According to the article When Pain Intersects with Depression or Anxiety, “One study showed that hypnosis training reduced both gastrointestinal distress and levels of depression and anxiety in 71% of those studied.” Anxiety plays a major role in college whether it be test anxiety or social anxiety. If you want to work on your anxiety and feel better about about going into tests, try hypnosis.
Next, hypnosis helps control pain. I personally have back pain especially after having a long day of classes. I know if I had motivation, I’d be able to work on stretching my back. According to the article When Pain Intersects with Depression or Anxiety, “During this therapy, a clinician helps a patient achieve a trance-like state and then provides positive suggestions.” These positive suggestions will be more of a motivation and you will feel like you want to do, for example, exercises that will help ease the
