The reason why Whites don’t get hyphenated as much as minorities is simple, they lost it. The very first group of people which we call today the Americans first arrived around four-hundred years ago by Mayflower. The major population of America was populated by these early colonists who forgot their tradition from their “homeland”. Other races migrated to America much later than the first “Americans”. For example the migration boomed during the 1880s when people prospered economically in America. This was the time when Asians and Europeans migrated to America to add more spice on the population. On the other hand, African-Americans didn’t have much choice to move or not, because they were enslaved. This does not mean hyphenation doesn’t exist for Europeans. There are Russian-Americans and Italian-Americans who are proud of their cultures and traditions and are willing to pass down to future generations even in foreign countries. It’s also interesting to point out that European-Americans who still possess their identity had major migration during the Industrial Revolution, which is much later than the first American’s arrival to the new land. Hyphenations do not separate, but only give Americans a more unique
