Just the word brings back memories from my childhood, but Barbie has been getting some negative press in the past few years. Lately, feminists have critiqued Barbie for her unrealistic body shape and even call her “hyper-sexualized.”
According to a recent CNN article, “In October, Mattel reported that worldwide Barbie sales fell 4% in the third quarter of 2015. And the company's stock price was down nearly 43% from its 2013 peak.” In order to improve the loss of revenue and their image, Barbie is releasing a new line that will feature four different body types: original, tall, petite and curvy.

• A.V. CLUB
• The Scoop Blog on Dallas News

This article gives an in-depth description of the different type of dolls, a picture slideshow of the different dolls, history and data to explain the new line. This tweet by one mom seems to best sum up this article, “Thank you @Barbie," one Twitter user posted Thursday. "I'm officially excited & proud to buy my daughter a barbie one day!"
A.V. CLUB
This article is quite a bit shorter in length than the CNN article. This article displays quotes and an indication that majority of people are in favor of Mattel’s new Barbie line. However, this article included a tweet by actress, Kirstie Alley that did not agree with the majority: “Are we seriously going to imply that BARBIE needs to be taken seriously? Jeez bring back 1965 where BARBIE just looked like freak.” Unlike CNN, I appreciated that A.V. CLUB provided both sides of the story.
