The Scene
It was 1976, the punk scene, when a rebellious teenager practically living in his best friend's basement was listening to the sex pistols on his vintage record player. His name was Steven Hyde, a brutally honest and down to earth, radical dude. As the last note from johnny rotten's mouth is growled out, “I wanna be anarchy”, Eric walks in. “Hey man”, says Hyde. Eric asked how's it hanging as he looks into hyde's tinted shades. “Its pretty chill I guess”. “ So, the gang is gonna go out tonight to a disco record burning party. “I'm there, man, might meet some chill people. “What?!” Says Fez. “Disco is so groovy and expressive how could you destroy such beautiful music?” “That music is so unoriginal and makes my ears bleed.” Claims Hyde. “ I don't know I think disco is

She was wearing a black led zeppelin shirt, a light blue jean jacket with patches of punk bands on it, her bell bottomed jeans were a color of deep denim blue. He noticed her pale and lightly sprinkled freckles on her delicate face. Her eyes were sparkling blue, like a diamond on display. As soon as she gazed over he turned away. “Hey man, having fun?” Said Eric. “Totally dude.” Later on into the night…….. “Stop ruining this beautiful music! “ Protested Fez and Jackie to the crowd, which paid no attention to their pleads. “Come on Jackie lets leave this horrible place.” Where are we going then?” To the Disco to boogie.” Oh yeah, this place sucks let's split”, agreed Jackie. “ Hey guys where are you going? We are leaving this joint to go to the disco. Do you and Donna and Kelso wanna join?” Sure, let's just tell Hyde that we are leaving. “Okay, that's fine I've got people to meet anyways, have fun.” Hyde then scanned around the area to spot that girl again. Well what have I got to lose, I will try to talk to her. “ Hyde thought.” “Nice Black Flag patch, man.” “Oh yeah, Depression's got a hold of me and I can't break free.”

Music and society have a large impact on each other, and how they shape the way people view and act in the world. There are four themes that identify and characterize how music has evolved over the past one hundred years. These themes also show how music affects and expresses the culture that not only we live in today, but also how we have changed in our views on numerous aspects of today’s society. The four themes that are explored directly with a specific artist and, or, band are how they impact society, politics, and several cultural issues that have stood the test of time and the way race, class, and gender are expressed in music. The development of the music industry and the technology used in it are widely affected by the change in music over decades, but also by outstanding individuals during their careers, which span over a variable amount of time.…

From the emergence of rock n’ roll in the 1950s, to the rise of disco in the 1970s, and the popularity of R&B and hip-hop in the 21st century. Although different musical movements defined different decades, the one thing that transcended through the metamorphosis of music was the topics and subjects behind the lyrics. Whether that be sex, race, love, money, or work, all artists have been singing and writing about the same themes since music itself was created. One of the most prominent and controversial issues addressed was politics and race sung through protest songs.…

Zora Neale Hurston is widely considered one of the greatest writers in African-American literature thanks to her transcendent work in her 1937 novel, Their Eyes were Watching God. The book explores the life of Janie, the black female protagonist yearning to reach the far horizons that lay ahead of her, and her journey to enlightenment and a position of equality in marriage. Her journey to enlightenment is greatly impacted by where she resides: mainly in Eatonville, a place of suppression, and the Everglades, a place of freedom, in Florida. In Their Eyes were Watching God, Hurston uses changes in setting in order to spark a transformation within Janie, creating a dynamic protagonist, as well as paralleling her current relationships in the respective…

The counterculture movement known as punk defies definition in any concrete terms. Punk contrasted itself to the 1960s, the hippie movement, and the rock’n’roll scene that had established itself; it was opposed to the capitalist society that had grown in the postwar years, the materialism of the times, and of big corporations. Yet, for all of its contrasts, punk was full of contradictions and a multitude of identities, and for that reason it will be examined here in terms…
