Huxley College Essay About My Career Goals

Improved Essays
Writing about my career goals is a struggle, even after a possible eighteen years of thought. Over time, I have realized that they all stem from an urge to use my scientific proficiency to make the world a better place for current and future generations. Now, I cannot think of a better way to do this than to pursue environmental science at Huxley College starting this winter quarter.
My goal is to spend my life studying and lessening the negative impact we as a species have had on the Earth. Despite advancing technologies, I am very concerned about the stresses we have placed on our environment and how they threaten to undo our global infrastructure. I find myself worrying about our future in the face of anthropogenic pollution, climate

I have seen that Huxley’s classes clearly reflect the interdisciplinary nature of environmental science, with elements of political science, economics, biology, ecology, oceanography, and chemistry, just to name a few. A well-rounded Huxley education will advance my learning and experience not only in environmental chemistry, but also in those many other fields. If accepted, I will contribute to Huxley and to the field of environmental science by applying my strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills that I developed earning my Associate’s degree. Wherever my skills end up being used, in a classroom, research lab, outdoors, or abroad, being admitted to Huxley would provide numerous essential means by which to refine these skills, so I can best protect human health and contribute to the conservation of our

The sciences have been central to my life ever since I was a child. My mother is a veterinarian and my father a mechanical engineer. Both of my parents attended Tuskegee University and always pushed for me to consider HBCU’s for my education. STEM careers and education are promoted heavily in Huntsville, my hometown, as major tech companies and government entities such as NASA and Missile Defense are located there. I ventured out my senior year and took courses dealing with social sciences, both in my high school and at a nearby university.…

If you asked my mom what my free time consisted of as a tiny tot, she would probably talk about my affinity for documentaries, specifically nature and space. While other kids would run home to catch the latest episode of Spongebob, I was rushing home to catch the latest episode of the nature documentary that was being showcased. My love of nature and animals led me to aspiring to be a marine biologist. My area of interest has shifted a bit, but is still in the realm of biology. I now dream of majoring in zoology, and becoming a zoologist.…

During the trip our counselors continuously reminded us of the impact we have on the health of our planet and that we, today’s youth, are the key to preserving it for even further generations of all living organisms to enjoy. That message resonated with me, and it inspired me to strive to be that difference in the world. I want to help solve the problems affecting our environment to help better it for people and the wildlife alike. I’ve chosen to major in Biology to get a better understanding of how the organisms of the world function and what their needs are, so we can develop new methods of preserving their habitats. I want to work towards a future filled with prosperity and affluence of health in our ecosystems.…

After I receive my degree in biology I want to venture out to receive my master's in marine biology. My other interest include marine environmental science, ecology, environmental science and policy, and marine ecology. The reason that I am so passionate about being a part of the diversity in wetland sciences is that there are so many people in my community who are misinformed in terms of government environmental policy, and also underrepresented in the enterprise of research. One of the ways that I engage in my community is encouraging youths that attend elementary, middle, and high school to consider taking up any science field if they show the slightest bit of interest. Like myself many children in my community assumed that the only career…
