She did not have a normal childhood because she was forced to grow up and be responsible for herself. Many children her age do not have to worry about what they are going to eat or if they are going to even eat something. For example, when my cousin was little his parents got divorced and he was left with his mother. His mother would leave for weeks not caring what happened to him. My cousin would eat with my grandmother but she was old in age and could not always feed him. Not having his parents around affected him a lot. My cousin and Hushpuppy had to learn to survive instead of playing with the other kids. Their childhood was robbed from them because their parents were not always there for them.

In the book Huckleberry finn, it it is evident that there is a lot of alcoholism throughout Hucks adolescent stage of life. This brings out a possible theme that is, “ the choices others make do not have to deter the choices you make.” Huck demonstrates this throughout the novel by not conforming to his paps ways, by gaining mutual respect for the runaway slave, Jim, and learning how to survive despite his rough upbringing. During the novel, huck is kidnapped by his Pap.…

In the movie Beasts of the Southern Wild directed by Behn Zeitlin, the element that stood out to me most is the relationship between Hushpuppy, a six year old girl living in the Bathtub, and her father, Wink. While in the beginning it seems he does not care about her, the course of the movie reveals he wants to do what is best for her by using tough love. In the beginning, Hushpuppy reveals that her father has left her and that she is not sure where he went or when he will be back. He leaves her alone without warning when she is only six years old, showing that he has no concern for her safety. Something could easily happen to her because she is not old enough to know how to take care of herself.…

Us Against Them: Classism and Capitalism Beasts of the Southern Wild, We Have Always Lived in the Castle and Gun Hill Road have an emphasis on the combative mindset between two opposing forces as distinguished by class or by capitalism, and by the structure of capitalism. In Beasts of the Southern Wild, these subjects present in duality when the inhabitants of the Bathtub are forcibly removed from their land by a “more advanced” society, and in We Have Always Lived in the Castle, it is seen when the angry mob of villagers destroy the Blackwoods’ house, as they seemingly resented them for their wealth, for in the eyes of the villagers, their riches were undeserved. In Gun Hill Road, the low-class Rodriguez family, whose child had to transition…

The movie Beasts of a Southern Wild, directed by American filmmaker, composer and animator Benh Zeitlin, takes place in a forgotten bayou town called the Bathtub. Hushpuppy, a naïve six year old, lives with Wink, her hotheaded drunkard father in a rusty shack. When Wink develops a mysterious disease and Mother Nature goes haywire, making ice caps melt and an enormous storm, Hushpuppy thinks that the two are related in some way. Hushpuppy’s world comes crashing down around her as large archaic creatures called aurochs are freed from the melting ice caps and are slowly making their way towards her, the storm waters are rising and her father’s health withers. Moviegoers should watch Beasts of a Southern Wild because it is a work art that is not frequently produced by Hollywood, it realistically tells the story of people who are fighting against nature, and it effectively portrays poverty without sugar coating or giving away typical and sometimes upsetting stereotypes.…

George Saunders’ “Puppy” and Toni Morrison’s “Recitatif” tell of two different stories with different characters in presumably different time periods. Both authors have drastically different backgrounds that bring them to these tales. However, their works of literature are more comparable than one would initially think. From the perspective of the reader, the intent of Puppy was to stress that there is often more to something than meets the eye and that because of this, we tend to want for things that we do not really understand. The families that appear in this story are perceived differently on the surface than they actually are underneath everything.…

Frankenstein and the Problem in Parenting Ever since Mary Shelley published the novel Frankenstein in 1818, many philosophers have debated its significance and the underlying meanings. While some suggest that racism is the most important theme, others believe that the 1931 movie rendition of Frankenstein more clearly shows that parenting is the key focus. When one considers how Dr. Frankenstein’s creation, the main character, reacts to the world around him, most people would likely be surprised that his actions almost always reflected those of a child. It can be seen in many different occasions how the monster approaches people with trust and good intentions, only to be rejected by them, causing him to retaliate negatively.…

There is undoubtedly a standout amongst the most essential abstract components in a work is portrayal: The formation of a gathering of identities who work as delegates of an anecdotal world are as key to a novel's story as its many subjects. For Twain, the test was to exemplify anecdotal characters with reasonable characteristics and identities; that is, his characters must be as conceivable and as conspicuous as the general population perusers went up against consistently. To finish this deed, Twain as often as possible called upon his youth encounters to make probably the most important characters in American writing. The region of characters that cover the pages of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are various.…

Right and wrong is relative to the experiences and specifics of any given circumstance. Right and wrong in parenting is no different. George Saunders explores the theme of correct parenting in his short story "Puppy" by thrusting the reader into the consciousness of two mothers on opposing ends of the spectrum. The muddied parallax, stream of consciousness narration of "Puppy" develops the struggle of parenting and the role that life experiences have on parenting style. "Puppy" opens to a mother (Marie) driving her two children to pick up a puppy they found from an advertisement.…
