The data in the survey covers a wide range of categories such as evacuation information, and health and safety information. Using information from this article will help identify how media played a role in dispersing information about the storm. As with any disaster, power outages disrupted communication systems and the way residents obtained their information. The results showed that residents relied on television, radios, and the internet for reliable information. Based on the results of the survey, the author determined that power outages rendered the web, cellphones, and social media less effective. However, the lack of data from other areas heavily impacted by the storm, in particular New York, weakens the author’s conclusion that these sources were actually ineffective. While this approach received a wide range of responses, it is difficult to get a complete understanding of how media sources dispersed information to the public.
