The poem is about what happened in the Hurricane Katrina before the storm and aftermath. Reynati writes, “Evacuate! Evacuate! was the urgent cry” (2). It reminds me how people didn’t evacuate before the storm that hit the Gulf Coast that caused flooding. If people would’ve been evacuated before the storm hit them, it would lessen the people who have been killed and the negative impacts on them such as stress, trauma and depression. Another line that got me was “And merely responded with a sigh” (4). I felt disappointment and miserable because many people ignored the warning about the storm. We should always be prepared and not underestimate any kind of natural disasters. It’s because we never know if that will give us our last breath in this earth. This line by Reynati its says “Energetic workers and rescue helicopters appear” (19). This line gives me different kinds of perception. It gives the audience a hope that the people suffered from that storm will rise up again, and we will see their smiles again.
