Each person is also influenced by opportunity, situation, and reinforcement, but acts or responds differently than others. One main construct of this theory is self-efficacy, which refers to a person’s confidence in his or her ability to undertake a specific action successfully. It is enhanced by successful experience and undermined by failure or feelings of frustration. Therefore, in order to enhance self-efficacy public health educators must offer instruction and practice in order to master the skill.
