The first hurricane named Irma occurred on October 2, 1978, and it also formed in the Atlantic Ocean. Luckily that hurricane never touched down on the United States’ coast or caused any damage. If this recent version of hurricane Irma continues to stay at its category three pace, it will be at least a week before it actually touches land. We have time to prepare for the worst, but hopefully it will die down before it causes any damage.
