A cold chill hangs in the air during the predawn hours that slowly saunter by as I creep cautiously towards that one towering tree that will be home for that fateful opening day. Without archery hunting or any type of hunting I lack stress relief as I meaninglessly drone along in life with one day slowly blending into another. For during those special hours on a fall Saturday, I am at ease, separated from the fast-paced world, experiencing nature by meticulous observation as I sit patiently to fill my tags. Fondly remembering that first hunt at the age of 8 years old I sat down with my father next to an old tree in Little Buffalo State Park outside of Newport, I can remember him telling me, "You may not get a squirrel today and that is why they call it hunting and not killing. I understood little about what it meant to hunt. Hunting is not about sitting in wait to end an animal's life; however, it is about experiencing nature at a primal level while being able to see nature awaken from its slumber, slowly coming back to life as the sun shyly peeks of the horizon, and other details we normally cannot as we go about our daily lives. In an office or at home, I do not get to watch a squirrel gracefully hop from one limb to another, and cannot have one close enough to see it's chest move from it breathing hastily. Killing is the last thing on my mind when hunting because it is merely a necessity to take part in population management of whitetail deer, squirrels, and many other game animals down so my grandchildren can enjoy

Back when hunting was done for survival, it became important and it was the reason you lived. It wasn’t fun, it was necessary. Now, hunting that’s for fun, shows kids blood and violence, not how to value life. Hunting has been around since the dawn of time. Having transformed from a vital means of survival to a sporting activity, people have long debated both sides of the issue. While some view hunting as a righteous action, others despise the deed. The argument for hunting as an admirable or distasteful act is still relevant to present society. As seen in the writings of Rick Bass and Robert G. Schreiner through many comparisons and differences, imagery, deeper meanings, stances, and views, the debate of hunting is a controversial matter.…

The excitement! Going deer hunting for the first time in my life! It all started when my dad and I went to get my first bow and arrow, I was full of excitement, we went to a bow and arrow store located somewhere east of Goshen IN, to purchase my very first bow and arrow, after test firing a few bows I honed in on the one, in my opinion the best, the amazing Blue Diamond bow and it was sure the diamond of all the other bows because it was a smooth and an accurate shot. After my purchase of the Blue Diamond bow, I knew next I had to practice a lot so I could make the perfect shot.…

Hunting, the innocent killing of animals or the challenging yet respectful pursuit of an animal is challenged by many and questioned as to whether or not it is morally justified. Hunting is considered by some to be moral and others to be immoral, with both sides presenting reasons to believe what they think to be true caused by opinions and facts presented by either side of the argument. As someone who has passed a hunter’s safety education course, I believe that hunting can be morally justified if performed correctly. Despite my bias, I will still argue both sides of this controversial topic using quotes, statistics, and ideas from both sides of the…
