Something that my family and I do to pay it forward is host a hunting camp for the disabled. We as a family host this deer camp for disabled people ranging from ages anywhere from ten to fifty, some being veterans and some being young people. We do this every year on opening day of rifle season. As we are hosting this hunting camp, we are paying it forward to disabled people giving them an awesome hunting experience, home cooked meals, and a chance to make amazing memories. Every now and again the hunters will ask my mom for other recipes that she has put together over the years. After growing up in a family full of hunters and then marrying one, she has come up with many different things. She will hand out recipes to our hunters to have for when the meat comes back to them. She has had nothing but positive feedback. The good thing about venison meat and venison jerky and so on, is that it is as natural as it gets. I have had a few people ask me how I can kill a deer. One in five veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. One of the best remedies for veterans who suffer from PTSD is animal therapy. For my sixteenth birthday party, I asked that my guest bring donations or animal supplies, instead of birthday gifts to donate to the A.N.N.A. Shelter in Erie that supports Pets for Vets. The A.N.N.A. Shelter works with Pets for Vets in order to pair animals with service members who have PTSD. I managed to raise a few hundred dollars for Pets for Vets and received many bowls, treats, toys, and so forth for the animals.…

Traveling through New Albany, I occasionally force myself to stop, and for a brief moment, see the community from the viewpoint of a newcomer—a picturesque town with white fences, manicured lawns, and stately buildings. As a resident, I am lucky to see beyond this viewpoint and experience everything New Albany has to offer, from the excellent schools, to the farmers market, and to its generous people. Over the years, I have become increasingly involved in various community service-oriented activities in New Albany. Within my school, I was given the opportunity to spend a few days a week after school volunteering as a tutor for two, fourth grade classrooms—without a shadow of a doubt, this was the most meaningful service I participated in.
