Hunter Gay. G-A-Y. As in homosexual. Nope, no ‘e’ on the end. Yeah, I know it is a weird name. Oh, ha, ‘gay hunter’! That’s such an original joke! These are all phrases that I have grown accustomed to saying ever since I was old enough to understand why my name was such a unique one. I’ve had enough people comment on my name that it’s become a bigger part of who I am than it would be to most people. I didn’t let my name only be something that people called me, but rather something that shaped my world view. In elementary school, I didn’t know exactly what was so wrong with my name until some kids starting teasing me, and my parents had to explain to me why my name was so unusual.
