Hunger In The Real World

Decent Essays
This book reminds me of our society today. There are rich people (from the Capitol) and poor people (from the districts). On of the poorest districts is district 12. In the real world, there are a lot of hungry kids out there who don't have enough food to eat. Katniss lost her father in a coal mine accident when she was very little. Now Katniss has to find food for her family or else she and her family would starve to death. Meanwhile, in the Capitol, they have more than enough food to eat. During big feasts, they drink a specific medication that will make them throw up so they can continue eating. The people from the Capitol have no idea what's going on in the other districts. Sadly, we are the people from the Capitol fortunate enough to have

The differences between people in this world differ greatly. BK Loren, author of Animal, Mineral, Radical: Essays on Wildlife, Family, and Food, believes that people of higher or lower classes can interact together and forget about their differences all due to a simple meal. Although two completely diverse people, one homeless and the other a college professor, they were both able to share an affinity through a simple PB&J sandwich. Jiddu Krishnamurti once said, “It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society”. In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, what used to be North America is now the country of Panem which consists of a rich Capitol and twelve other districts. As a punishment for past rebellion by the districts, the Capitol forces each district to give a male and female teenager to fight to the death in what is called the Hunger Games, while all of Panem is forced to watch on television. Katniss Everdeen volunteers as tribute when her sister is chosen as the female tribute for the games. Krishnamurti is trying to warn of us the same dangers of society that Collins is; if we conform to a society that is doing wrong, that makes us no better than those who have made it that way.…

In the Article “True Fasting and Unwilling Hunger (Isaiah 58)”, Mercedes L. García Bachmann dissects the 58th chapter of Isaiah to find the true meaning and application of the Hebrew text. Through this dissection, she concludes that YhWh condemns the ritual fasting the religious leaders were performing and instead demands a sacrifice leading to justice for the oppressed in society. To start, Bachmann examines the context surrounding Isaiah 58. This chapter from Isaiah belongs to the third segment of the book, meaning that it was written during the restoration period and therefore a commentary on life after the exile period. Another important feature she includes is the use of a chiastic structure throughout the chapter, which she will later use to identify emphasized pieces of the text as well as to draw…

Discuss psychological, cultural, and situational influences on hunger and eating When you're hungry, you eat. It seems like a simple and straightforward process, but the reality is that the hunger motive is influenced by biological, psychological, cultural, and social factors. One element alone doesn't make you hungry; rather several occurrences working together to provide the body with energy trigger the motive to eat. Homeostasis contributes by regulating metabolism and digestion via monitoring supplies needed to produce nutrients, while satiety sensors (as first encountered in relation to the thirst motive) serve as lookout stations set up to detect when supplies are on the way. On a more abstract level, external influence and culture-specific rituals can sometimes stimulate your desire to eat by recalling memories of how certain foods or celebrations made you feel euphoric.…

Corruption is a fraudulent behaviour that occurs excessively in the world of Suzanne Colin's novel, "The Hunger Games". This form of activity takes place most often in the Capitol.
