This book reminds me of our society today. There are rich people (from the Capitol) and poor people (from the districts). On of the poorest districts is district 12. In the real world, there are a lot of hungry kids out there who don't have enough food to eat. Katniss lost her father in a coal mine accident when she was very little. Now Katniss has to find food for her family or else she and her family would starve to death. Meanwhile, in the Capitol, they have more than enough food to eat. During big feasts, they drink a specific medication that will make them throw up so they can continue eating. The people from the Capitol have no idea what's going on in the other districts.
