Here, today, in the 21st Century, we live in a world with nothing but problems. In the Middle East, uncontaminated water is almost impossible to come by, civil wars, acts of terrorism, and everyday starvation are all normal parts of life. Even here in America, issues with both obesity and child hunger are present, both occurring in the same country. I say that some major changes must be made in this problem ridden world. Three major changes that should be made to the world today are: no homework should be given to students of any age, terrorism should be halted indefinitely, and starvation and obesity should cease.…

The members travel down to the border to provide water and sanctions for the people. “In addition, volunteers also participate in community events, such as events at universities and colleges, as well as fundraisers and special projects.” (borderangels.org) There are many volunteers that are unable to travel down so they help out by having events and spreading the word about their cause. They also have several causes and they are willing to help many people who have a lack of opportunities.…

The food bank also assists with people who are struggling to make ends meet and have to provide for their family. To talk to many of these people, is rather eye-opening. For the most part, they are just normal people just trying to become self-sufficient. Unfortunately, I also ran into some who tried to take advantage of the food bank as well. For example, I had one customer who tried to take more of one type of item than allowed.…

In order to help resolve this issue we need to begin by focusing on the roots of food production, agriculture. One of the main complications that countries often encounter is trouble gaining access to updated farming equipment. As a result, famers find it difficult to cultivate the crops necessary for survival.…

Feed my starving children is a non-profit organization that packages food to send to malnourished children in several countries. These sustainable meals are made specifically to pack as many nutrients as possible to help nourish and strengthen the children so they can be healthy and conquer their fight against starvation. When most people think about global hunger they think of a lack of production of food in developing countries, however, it’s more than that. Global hunger encompasses not only food production and security, but also distribution and access. Feed my starving children distributes their packed food to about 70 countries which gives children in these countries access to food that otherwise would not be there.…

Child hunger is a growing problem all over the world, but right here in the United States it is probably a bigger problem than you might think. “According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) 15.3 million children under eighteen in the United States live in households where they are unable to consistently access enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life” (“Child Hunger”). These children are in every community and could be sitting beside your child in their classrooms. In 2013, the top five states that were said to have the highest rates of food insecurity under eighteen was: Washington D.C., Mississippi, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Georgia, with North Carolina not trailing too far behind and accounted in the top ten…

The topic in which I have chosen to write about is hunger, and the issue is very important to recognize even when there are several benefactors that contribute to making sure families are not going hungry. Hunger is not really brought up as a major issue anymore because there is programs such as food stamps, and several forms of government assistance that is being given out more often than not in todays society. Hunger is not found very often anymore in poor households, and is becoming less of an issue each and every year. According to the article written in 2009, malnutrition, states that hunger is not an important issue anymore, due to the availability of food to the lower class families.…

These different schools of thought are well illustrated within the three NGOs examined in this piece. W4 can be seen as giving too much power to the local perspective, allowing itself to be an organization which only gives money to local groups in the hope that they use it wisely, but lack any groundwork or incentives for the organizations to do so. WFW is the opposite end of the spectrum, while they have relationships with local leaders and organizations, they do not support them. They go in and train and support women themselves, using western tutors and foreign ideals to empower women. ActionAid is considered by many to be the ideal middle ground between the two.…
