Similar to Collins’ novel James Dashner’s The Maze Runner also has a complete apocalypse. Ender and Thomas’ trials are very similar in that they both have puzzles of some sort to face. Thomas faces the maze and Ender his fantasy game. Once again similar to each other, Thomas and Ender are both in predominantly male scenarios and are both children who are as test subjects. While Ender serves as a leader in every sense of the word, Katniss serves the people of Panem as more of an icon and rebel than a leader. Much like Ender and Katniss, the idea of separation is very prominent throughout Thomas’ journey. Very similar to Katniss, Thomas is also separated from the world. Katniss is separated while in her district and also in the arena, while Thomas is separated from the real world while inside of the Maze. In three different worlds, which contain their own individual problems, three young ones show similar traits, problems and solutions. Each of the three stories tells a unique spin of the post-apocalyptic theme while still having many ideas in common. They each tell their story with some aspect of a disaster, a difficult trial, using children, having a leader or rebel, and separation. By using these elements three worlds and characters are created that can be displayed as ideal post-apocalyptic stories which will entertain and enthuse those who view them.
