He stood there, his eyes wide in fright, his strong hind legs poised, ready, waiting for just the right moment to leap into the air. His breathing was short and fast and the way his eyes bulged out of his skull was reminiscent to the time my father accidentally hit a deer, but I quickly put that thought out of my head. It was different, anyway. The deer knew its fate, but this rabbit still had some fight left in him.
I knew what I had to do. Wasn’t it just a moment ago I would have eaten anything? How hungry I was! “Ok”. I told myself, “It’s now or never”. I lunged with my makeshift spear and he darted easily out of my grasp. “Damnit”, I said as I felt the hunger creeping back into the pit of my stomach, eating away at itself like a cancer.
