Narrative recreation of The Hunchback in the Park and Ozymandias (with a hint of the Horse Whisperer)

The number of days of which I have resisted the tempting grasp of suicide, which beckoned to me so clearly. The number of days my debilitated and blackened soul has been filled with vengeance, vengeance for a man who has changed me into this pathetic excuse of a human being. It is merely but a gratuitous insult.

Here I am. Outside.

Contemplating the life which I led once. It was simple. Aren’t the best of things? I had a simple

Other days, I feel nothing at all. I don't know what's worse; drowning beneath the waves or dying from the thirst

My cupped hands take in the water. A shadow overcasts me. Looking up I see it is him. Ozymandias. For that is his name. He stands as imposing as the statue which was built in his supposed honour. I feel utter contempt for this man. Even now his malevolent laugh echoes within my eardrums. That sneer of cold command. The last thing my wife saw before she was ruthlessly seized from me and ...

Killed.

His cold heart radiates a dark aura. I am wary of him. I feel paralysed and my mind numb. In a smooth movement he has the chain from the cup around my neck and I feel my life being seized from of me. Out of the corner of my eyes my son is crouched behind the bushes. I put my fingers to my lips to silence him. Ozymandias shall claim my son. Not like he has claimed me. No, I will not let him.

In that instance I realised something. I realised what my most invaluable possessions are.

My integrity and my word. Two things that are not tangible in physical aspect but the two valuable things that can be gifted to a person. Without these... we have nothing and are worth even less.

THE VALUE OF GODLY PARENTS Of all the possessions you own, what is the most valuable thing you hope to pass down to your children? Prologue The enigmatic sky was as black as tar, rain fell heavily across the pessimistic city from swirling grey clouds. Mobinur Rahman Margarita Suso English 126 “The Colonel” by Carolyn Forche is an emotional response to a political situation which works by emphasizing a poetic form rather than a journalistic approach. The use of a prose poem allows the freedom of expression and leaves the reader to discover a richer substance. The descriptive use of detailed imagery lets the reader understand and truly discover the political message. “Ozymandias” by Percy Bysshe Shelley conveys the feeling that acquired wealth and possessions don’t deliver immortality. Through usage of vivid imagery and irony, in both poems the poets explain that, similarly to the possessions they gather and own nothing lasts forever.…

Human qualities are as many and various as faith and skepticism; autonomy and fatalism; love and indifference. All humans experience pain as well as joy, and the perception of one is reliant on the existence of the other; to this law, there are no exceptions. Nonetheless, human existence is governed by a few all-encompassing laws, such as love and death. Percy Bysshe Shelley’s poems “To Wordsworth” and “Ozymandias” examine the lives of two remarkably different men; however, in their contemplation of the two lives, both poems agree on the universal elements of transience and permanence in different aspects of human life. “To Wordsworth” is an elegy for a humble man whose life, although it spanned a brief time in the stretch of human existence,…

Ethical consumption has to do with the role we as consumers play in trying to put a stop to exploitation of women and children in sweatshop factories throughout the world including the United States. Things like food and clothing are necessary factors in our lives that we will always need. More than likely we buy items not taking into account how it was made or where it came from. “Ozymandias” by Percy Bysshe Shelley seems to describe a story about a statue which is being told by a traveler to the narrator of the poem. From his description, the reader can determine that the statue was probably built by a vain ancient king to boast about his accomplishments. However, over the years this kingdom must have collapsed into ruins. The words used in this poem and the way the writing is gone about by its author deeply affect and create meaning and fluidity in the text.…
