Humpback Dolphin Case Study

Improved Essays
Summary of the african dolphin being put onto the endangered mammals list the reason why they are on the list. They label that something is vulnerable but they never check up on the species to see if there is a decline in the population and then they say that it is such a shame that it has to be the way it is. I think that if they would have watched the species that they would have never had the problem that they currently have.
The humpback dolphin was poorly studied mammal used to be on the vulnerable list but is now on the critically endangered list. They live on the coast of africa and weren't really studied at all. At the recent studies shown there appears to be a small community of atlantic humpback and its probably less than 1,500 breeding

If they were still considered vulnerable because that means that there is a possibility that something could happen to the dolphins. The definition of vulnerable susceptible to physical or emotional attack or harm is in need of special care, support, or protection because of age, disability, or risk of abuse or neglect. So therefore they should have been watched closely but they didn't seem to care and just went to something else and moved on. I still think that the need to do more research on the humpback dolphin before something drastic happens and they need to make sure to find their strengths and weaknesses to know what the dolphin is going to need when or if it comes time for them to do something about it. If they would have kept track of what was going on then they wouldn't have the problem they are having to day with the humpback dolphin or even any other population of species on the planet, they should have to check up and see how all the populations are doing. Not just the ones that are endangered, they spend way too much time on the species that are extinct 8if they took that time they spend on the extent and put it into other species then they could prevent species going extinct. The species that are extinct are gone they aren't coming back but the endangered populations can because there still here and

    1) After looking at the graphs in Figures 3 and 4, it is obvious that killer whales are the cause behind the deaths of a large amount of sea otters. Despite the data for Figure 3 showing all sea otter the researchers encountered, while the data for Figure 4 showing sea otters with radio tags, both figures still show a drastic decrease in sea otter population with the only main difference between Kulak Bay and Clam Lagoon being the ease of access that killer whales have to the areas. The researchers looked at 2 different sets of data because they wanted to show the general decline in the population in figure 3 and then show a more specific set of otters to show that the general decline was not because of human error. By having figure 4 focus on…

I believe that changes to living and non -living parts of an ecosystem impact population within the habitat because if you take away or put something into an ecosystem you are affecting everything around you. Especially if you put in or take out a keystone species. Keystone species are animals that other animals rely on and need to grow. So if you take away an animal that everyone relys on you are hurting all the other animals.…

Why Seaworld’s Orcas Should Remain In Captivity Many people may argue that it is wrong for Seaworld to take orcas from the ocean and their families, but seaworld hasn’t captured a wild orca since the late 1970s for anything other than for rehabilitation purposes! The controversy over Seaworld’s captive orcas has been going on for decades. Seaworld ended its iconic orca shows due to the massive outcry of the public. Many feel that these animals have a right to be free, but others believe that releasing the orcas would mean certain death. Captive orcas should not be freed despite the outcry of the public; if they were to be freed, they would be socially isolated, they would not know how to survive on their own, and they wouldn’t be used to the ocean’s environment.…

Whales Whales in captivity is a horrible thing because the whales are separated from their familie, are forced to perform in front of screaming audiences, and they can act out and hurt humans and each other in small spaces. Male orca whales have collapsed dorsal fins. When there in the wild there dorsal fin stays straight up. When there in captivity there dorsal fin collapses. This is most likely because they are cramped up in a tight place so they can’t swim freely.…

According to scientists, around 150-200 species of plant and animal go extinct every 24 hours. This statistic doesn’t seem so shocking until the realization comes that this is almost 1,000 times the natural rate for extinction. Humans contribute a great amount to this pandemic. A prime example is that of the dodo bird, which was famously hunted into extinction. Around 20,000 species are currently listed as threatened by extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).…
