Congratulations. (Comm. S)
Chief, are we going to follow the agenda? (Comm. A)
Pretty close, except I think Captain McKee has a presentation that he wants to make. (Chief)
I am going to start off with having Brad Elston and his wife come forward. Brad has been with the department for 20 years, and I think that is monumental. He has done a lot of things with the department; he is currently a K-9 handler and a Corporal. He has done a wonderful job out on the street and is making himself better every day. We really appreciate it, 20 years is a long time to be out here working, and I think we still got quite a few years left in him. We look forward to the future.
Doug Schnarr and Brad got hired around the same time. Doug was supposed to be here, but he had a prior commitment, so it was not able to make it. He has been presented. So, I want to present Brad with his 20-year

Next, I would like to bring forward Officer Chris Johnson. We are going to have Storytime here. Come a little closer so the commissioners can hear you. (Chief)
The reason we have Chris here is, Chris is our K-9 Bomb handler, and he is a single purpose handler with a dog. The school kind of came in with us to make this happen and bring that in. Had a lot of questions about that and I know Chris did too because this is a single purpose bomb dog, not every day we find bombs, right? And not every day do we want to go find bombs. Chris has taken it upon himself to train his dog to the greatest extent possible with also finding firearms, shell casings, different things like that because it is not just bombs that we are after.
We had a road rage incident on Perry Road by the mall where someone actually fired shots at someone else. They called Chris out with his dog, and he was able to put his dog to use, which again goes to show you the value that Chris has to the department and the value that a bomb detection dog. I will let him tell the story and what he did. (Capt.

For decades to come people will ask of each other, where were you? I am sitting with Arnold Burns, the chairman of the boys and girls club of America, talking about the needs of youth. I have known this former deputy attorney general of the United States for twenty-five years, and because I am on the board of advisers. We happened to run into each other the way New Yorkers often meet, in an unlikely place. Jimmy Boyle is, without a doubt, the most beloved man within the New York fire department family.…

When he arrived he started off by saying to me, “Hello, I am Sargent Albey you must be Paloma. I have been told that you have been wanting to create a gas substance that will allow us to kill the Hydra easier and that will hopefully help decrease the loss of toops”. At first I thought to myself, how cool would it be to be known for having helped create the first substance to kill hydra but not hurt us, although then it hit me if this doesn’t work I would ben known as the person who gave false hope to the family members who have family fighting. I responded by saying,“ Hello, Sargent Albey it is great to finally get to speak with you about my plans to help the amount of casualties decrease, now I am not saying that I can help create something that assures anyone who fights their life although I wish I could say that. I was thinking was that maybe we can create a poisonous gas such as that used in much of WWI, and also use the layout for an atomic bomb which were difficult and dangerous to handle due to the fact that they were created using things such as plutonium, uranium and explosives which would cause an explosion”.…

For this forum I will select my city law enforcement agency which is the New Orleans Police Department or better known as the N.O.P.D.. The history of the N.O.P.D. Dates back all the way to the 1790 's and even though during that time the agency had a different name (Guard Deville or City Watch) it was created by the Spanish Colonial Governor Baron de Carondelet due to the high crime level, and to help the military fight against crime (Sinclair). The N.O.P.D. Started very small by 1817 it only had 4 dozen of patrol officers, by 1852 it had a chief, commanding officers, and more than 300 policemen, by 1915 it had 520 policemen and they started to use motor patrol wagons, motorcycles, and horse patrol wagons, by 1922 it was the only department…

There’s nothing better than coming home to see the happy wag of your pup’s tail or hear the smooth purr of a cat. Some of these pets have a job though; they lead the blind, locate objects, open doors, and can even sniff out bombs while working with the police. However, these friendly faces are not just pets, they are service animals. A service animal is defined as follows, “Dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities” (Service Animals). This one sentence is the difference between a loveable pup and a working dog.…

    Accelerant Detection Dogs

Accelerant detection dogs are used by fire departments, and other fire investigators to aid them in the detection of substances used to expedite fires and underscore the spreading of the destructive flames. Dogs are used due to their special skill set in detecting odors that humans are unable to; their ability to differentiate sets of different scents, and locating scents even after some time has passed since those smells were deposited. In 1993, evidence gathered with the help of accelerant detection canines, helped convict five people when traces of flammable fluids were located on their clothing by the specially trained dogs. (United States of America vs. Kathryn Schroeder, ET AL, 1993) Insurance companies such as State Farm promote and encourage the use of accelerant detection canines. Starting in 1993, State Farm has sponsored and financially aided several law enforcement and fire departments with the Arson Dog Program, to help with the apprehension of numerous arson perpetrators yearly.…
