Humorous Wedding Speech: Using Pop Culture In High School

Improved Essays
Good evening everyone! Today is an exciting day, we’ll be giving you a speech. To ensure clear communication we will be using pop culture references. I don’t if you know us but my name’s Karin, and I'm Prosper, we are both very honoured to be the valedictorians of 2018. We went through elementary school along with your children, *sigh* that was good times, and be sure to follow me on Insta. We want to give a big congratulations to everyone, including ourselves for being here today. We all did start from the bottom, and look, the whole team is here. We are stuck in a world of problems, including ebola, global warming, smoking, and facial acne, and despite the odds we managed to graduate, so let’s give a big round of applause.

School was a puzzle, we all most likely started fifth grade nervous, anxious, or scared. Questions like how are we going to fit in, filled our heads, and we became more concerned about who we hung out with, what we wore, and what marks we would receive. Things such as having the best Beyblade didn’t matter anymore. School is like a puzzle because just like the Rubik’s cube you can turn it around in a desired direction to complete the puzzle and essentially finish elementary school. Yet, if you turn it in an unplanned direction it’ll get more mixed up. You begin matching colours, having self awareness, knowing which clubs are open to join, which projects are due, which friends will lead you in a good direction, and by the time 5th grade is complete you’ll have some of your cube solved. K: 6th grade is a bit different, you now know what’s happening, you have your time table down, and you’ve joined some clubs. But you aren’t an intermediate yet so not much is going on. You are solving more problems and more of your cube is solved. Nearing the end of elementary school, in 7th grade we are entitled to more power, we could join the student council, have our own lockers, join more sports team than ever before. You realize school is going to be much harder, teachers will rely on you more and younger students look up to you, you are a role model. And any wrong

Choosing a valedictorian is a tradition in American high schools as it creates a sense of pride in the students who earn the title, but is it always a good thing? In “Best in Class” by Margaret Talbot, she creates a message that the issue of valedictorian isn’t necessarily a bad one, but it can be modified to become a more pleasurable tradition as it creates an unhappiness in a certain group of people rather than giving satisfaction to everyone as a whole. Talbot applies an appeal to logos as well as anecdotes of the experiences of other students in order to portray her message to the audience. Although Talbot doesn’t explicitly state her claim, it can be inferred through her use of logos that she does not support the traditional way of choosing…

Now as we all know, 6th grade wasn’t a good school year. People looked weird, everything was new, it was just an awkward system all together. In 6th grade everything didn’t feel right. It was like I was back in 5th grade but without the teacher taking the class everywhere. I started to notice as the year went by, the 5th grade part of 6th grade was fading in a good way.…

My Dearest Elizabeth, I have indeed landed on my own dark continent, though I think you would find it uncommon hot and bright. Your fantasies of my landing at Durban “best limb forward” generated a chorus of guffaws at the Regatta Club, though I did not disclose your name. I have no doubt that you would enjoy a measure of notoriety among the lads, but I am reluctant to show all my cards so soon upon disembarking, and you, dear, are my ace of spades. You have forgotten, perhaps, that my fame in this port is only for being the heir to the dreary Greenacre Trade Co.…

Good morning Bob, Sir, I’ve been noticing my wife, Lori, has been coming more anxious day by day since our family has decided to move to Colorado. Last night she didn’t come to bed until 1am (please understand this is a woman who religiously gets her 8 hours). She then woke up with me before 6. I finally had to ask what was on her mind. All her stresses and anxiety stem from not having enough information to tell her boss that we are planning on moving.…

ou looked over your shoulder towards the princess styled bed sitting in the corner. The bed was large, just like this room, and complimented the area nicely. It was decorated with the same colors, patterns, and accents the rest of the furniture in the room had. Placed on top of the bed were many pillows and stuffed dolls. Right now, they were all over the place; they were mixed in with the thick sheets and blankets.…

So where have I come from my last post? well pretty far, lets just say most of the time I feel like I'm paddling up shit creek without a paddle, and for the first time ever I can see the paddle just over the other side of the river and I'm wading through the shit with my hands as paddles pushing away the debris and muck to get to it. Watching soccer has always been a favorite pastime of mine and my family. For as long as I could remember, I woke up to the Premier League, ate lunch with La Liga, and dined with Liga MX. I witnessed the likes of Manchester United vs. Manchester City, Barcelona vs. Real Madrid, and Chivas vs. America. From El Clasico to El Super Clasico, I lived, dreamed, and consumed every team and derby. For every school year from September to June, watching clubs was religious.…
