In particular, we all appreciate and love to assimilate new information and gain our knowledge. However, textbooks do not enlighten the reader with exact information, since they do not reinforce a myriad number of precise topics and facts of historical events or any information in general. Such as, when desiring to ascertain an infinite amount of new information on historical events, in this case being on the American West during the mid and late 1800’s, not only can we gather information from textbooks and from Chapter 18 on “HIST4” (Volume 2. All young girls dream of being royalty. Kindergarten fantasies consist of glitter, tiaras, and undoubtedly a handsome prince. “Cinderella and Princess Culture” written by Peggy Orenstein and “The Princess Paradox” written by James Poniewozik are two articles that compare fairytale life to the real world, analyzing the purpose of princesses in today’s society. While both authors use feministic points of view to convey how being exposed to princesses impacts a child’s future, Peggy Orenstein believes marketing strategies and princess trends set unrealistic goals for young girls and James Poniewozik believes modern princesses teach girls how to control their own destiny.…

The Princess Bride is different from other fairy tales because, you have the giant, Fezzik which in all reality he is just a human with extra strength and extra size. When you look at other Fairy Tales that have giants they really don't resemble large humans and if they do they are usually ugly. I did not like how William Goldman added in his notations, most fairy tales will not have those in them. While reading the book I would get confused and have to go back before William Goldman's notations so I could understand what was going on in the book.…

In the novel of mice and men, Steinbeck the author moulds and manipulates the character of Curley’s wife impressively. He utilises her inextricable character as a portrayal of women living in the 1930’s period. An era where women were expected to adhere to their traditional roles in the home and not object to the wrongful actions of the men. Steinbeck exposes Curley’s wife character as being an isolated victim of social degradation and belittlement in the 1930s sexist society with no sense of individuality, as well as displaying her in a negative manner through Candy’s opinion and her physical behaviour. In this essay I will explore the diverse sides to the character of Curley’s wife provided by Steinbeck, who delivered a profound insight into how she was perceived due to her behaviour and social objectification.…
