Life at my camp right now is very hard. It isn’t likely that you will receive this letter. You have most likely heard that Postmaster General Montgomery Blair cut off mail service to states that had seceded. Confederate stamps are valueless in the North so when i send this the chances of you getting it is close to zero. Don’t bother trying to write back. Mail addressed to the Confederate states are supposed to be taken to the Dead Letter Office and returned to the sender. At home we don’t have the money to buy stamps for letters that will just be returned so please don’t bother. I wish to see all of you and the hear your voices. I miss home so much and I’m very scared right now. At the moment I’m in Tennessee under Major General
