Toxic masculinity continues to be shown with Stephen Asma’s article “Humiliations and Rage: How Toxic Masculinity Fuels Mass Shooting.” Asma attempts to gain an understanding on why men do the things they do, in otherwards, toxic masculinity. Society expects men to act a certain way like to grow up, get married to a wife, and then have children afterwards. When men don’t do these expectations people become disappointed with these men. People should be able to be themselves. The Huffington Post, reveals one traditional “feminine” quality known as empathy with these words: “It’s a tool for progress and it is a virtue. Societal advancement relies on a balanced understanding of nature and human nature, the latter of which comes of an understanding of fellow men,” (Ryan Douglass). Society expects men to stand tall and be a “man.” These are social norms, also known as toxic masculinity, and when toxic masculinity is jeopardized, people don’t know how to act. With all of this evidence, we can see why there's so much anger in the world. Society expects men to act a certain way, and when they can’t act the way they really want, they may tend to go insane. These men may also feel entitled. So entitled that they don’t tend to think about the consequences of their actions. These white men want to take control of other people’s lives without the slightest inkling to how it could affect other people’s lives. Murder ruins lives no matter what.
