Hume-Lake Christian Camp

There could be more than one definition of a beautiful place; they all differ from each other. For example, the sight and sound of ocean waves colliding with each other as they ooze onto the shore of the beach could be a definition of a beautiful place; however, the sight of gleaming city lights with the glowing silver shine of the moon resting in the sky could also be a definition of a beautiful place. Hume Lake Christian Camp is my definition of a beautiful place. It is located in the Sequoia National Forest in Hume, Fresno County, California. As we, as campers, arrived closer to the camp, our pupils dilated and jaws dropped in awe, reminding me of a child on Christmas morning as he set his eyes on the glamorous pine tree and the sparkling gifts wrapped neatly under it. …show more content…
The cluster of people began to meet at the campfire site. The orange flames illuminated the campfire pit; they swayed rapidly as if they were performing a celebration dance. The crackling fire casted large shadows around the dark area. The fire’s intensity fluctuated. The flames gleamed orange and vermillion at its tips, and gold, cream, and lily-white at its core. Many surrounded the campfire, hoping the high temperature would warm up their hands. The high amount of heat produced by the fire brought warmth to my cold hands. The smell of the burning wood and pine needles became prominent in the area. Smoke rose from the pit and stretched up into the night sky, disappearing seven feet above the fire into the darkness. Darkness gradually disappeared as the large fiery ball awoke. The luminous pearl in the sky began to fade. The pines that were once invisible, appeared as silhouettes, casting shadows upon the earth. The livid mountains in the distance began to recover their visual clarity. The sky began to transform into its blue color. Orange light shined across the horizon. The once bottle-colored grass transformed into its original chartreuse

In flame and filament, Nicholas Carr expresses the importance and significance that the candles and old ways of lighting had and still have on our society today. He talks about how back in the day families used the candle light and light from the fireplaces to bring them all together, thus inadvertently creating a family bond. He goes on to show us how in today's society with all of the technological advancements families don’t spend as much time together because of the ease and availability of the light bulb to be in every room of a house. IMPETUS: the force by which a body moves. A single flickering street lamp illuminated the abandoned streets below. Ash danced on the wind, interrupted by the charred, black skeletons of what had once been sturdy foundations to village houses, coating the parts of the street where there was still gasoline with burnt memories. It settled on the occasional corpse, mimicking skin where the muscle had been touched by fire, drawing halos of gray chalk around the shattered skulls of innocents that had died escaping before the flames could claim them.…

According to David Hume, everybody makes moral distinctions, and every one of us is affected by considerations of moral and immoral. That is, what we call "good" and "bad" it cannot be considered as something that is a property of a moral action. Therefore, if we analyze a moral action, either "good" or "bad," and we describe its properties, it will not appear "good" or "bad" as a quality of the object involved in the action, but it will appear one "feel" of the approval or disapproval of the events described. Therefore, I believe that Hume would judge the action of Julie and Mark as neither good nor bad. Here's why I think that Hume would judge like that: “The reason can judge on a question about facts or about relationships.…

Fire Analysis Nature is often seen as a beautiful aspect of life whereas fire on the other hand is identified as harsh and destructive, however the line separating the two is miniscule. People on occasion question the actions of those who prefer to live far from the city where a fire is inescapable. The response however is always the same; living among nature is more peaceful and calming than living in a crowded area. As fire brings destruction and havoc, it will also bring new life, opportunity, and peacefulness as well.…
