Man is a social animal. Just like every human being has a basic instinct for food, water, shelter and physical love, they also have a need for being recognised and loved socially. Facebook, the brain child of a youngster Mark Zuckerberg within a decade of its inception (the-pros-and-cons-of-facebook, 2013) has turned into one of the biggest technology wonders that the world will forever remember. The trend has enthralled audiences to such an extent that it is considered a disgrace today to not have an account on Facebook. Facebook has its own share of advantages but it is equally important that as users of social media individuals be aware of its disadvantages also. The biggest advantage that Facebook has is the immense capability it gives for networking. Yet another advantage is the freedom of expression that it gives its users which opens a world of creativity for youngsters. However just like any other technology based tool Facebook also has its share of disadvantages. Facebook in spite of the innumerable options and settings that it has for privacy is questionable about the extent of privacy it can guarantee. The other disadvantage is the loss of productive time because of usage of social media tools like Facebook which are highly addictive. These status updates can be a write-up, an expression of feeling using the help of smileys and emoticons that are available in the platform or use the various situations available in Facebook to express what they feel. Some use status updates to indicate what they do , or where they are located. Some others may use Facebook to express their opinions on current events or post reviews on latest movies that they see.Facebook also provides the opportunity for account holders to post latest photographs or videos. Thus Facebook acts as a platform for an individual to express themselves not just to their own friends but to the whole world. There is lot of creative work centred on Facebook and Facebook pages have become prime in helping small businesses and start-ups communicate their difference and key offerings to the general public.
