In this story, a lady is informed of her husband 's death, everyone seems to think she is heartbroken about it but in reality her husband 's death makes her feel liberated and free. She then learns that it was all a misunderstanding and that her husband is alive, receiving this news is what eventually kills her. They all think that her death was caused by the amount of happiness she felt when she found out her husband was alive but in reality it was because of the disappointment and sadness the news brought to her. Human neutrality can be seen when the reader reads the quote “She said it over and over under her breath: "free, free, free!" The vacant stare and the look of terror that had followed it went from her eyes. They stayed keen and bright. Her pulses beat fast, and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch of her body”. Her husband had been oppressing her and now that he was gone she would finally be able to live her life freely. She was happy not necessarily because of her husband 's death but for all the liberty and opportunities his death would bring her. Being happy for her new found freedom does not make her a bad person but the way she reacted to the situation doesn 't make her good
